Wow! Oh Wow! What a wonderful concert was held in St Andrew's Church on Saturday 19th April. Our minister, Carl, introduced the Family Band who gave us a magnificent afternoon of music. Michael McKay, on piano and accordion, his daughter Nikki, the lead singer, son Andy on guitar and vocals, and drummer Alan Moir, who also joined in with the singing. Music from times gone by brought back lovely memories—we knew all the songs from our "dancing days" - for some of us, not exactly yesterday! Interspersed with the popular music, were songs from World War 2 - reminding us that the 80th anniversary of VE Day will soon be celebrated throughout the UK and Europe. Indeed, Nikki's last song was the Vera Lynn favourite, "The White Cliffs of Dover." She sang this in a setting that was completely silent - but everyone was greatly moved by the poignant lyrics.

When she had finished, there was the most terrific ovation from the 200 strong audience - not only for Nikki, but for all the members of the Family

Band.

A delicious afternoon tea was served after the concert - sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones, home bakes, cakes etc - all produced by the Social Committee and loyal volunteers. A Vote of Thanks was given thanking Social Convenor, Molly, and her deputies, Mo Vernal and Pat Wink, plus all the volunteers who had helped, not only on the Saturday, but in the days leading up to the event. An amazing £2,000.00 was raised for church funds, but, just as important, a marvellous afternoon was enjoyed by everyone, with a real sense of community spirit encircling the church during the concert, and in the halls during the teas. Well done to all those who contributed to this fabulous occasion.
